A teacher and a student review True Shoes

Just posted on Amazon.com's True Shoes page, this Customer Review from a middle-school teacher and one of her students in Michigan:

I loved True Shoes, the much anticipated sequel to The Revealers. The characters from The Revealers deal with cyber bullying. The reader is immediately drawn into the main character's life and the anticipation of the payback from the royalty group. Needing to know about the paybacks keeps the reader riveted. The answers to so many questions about Richie Tucker, Elliot and Catalina, the characters in The Revealers, made this book REALISTIC.

I believe my students can relate to the characters' situations; whether it's domestic violence, working out misunderstandings between one another, accepting someone for who they are, or loving the unique qualities in each of us.

Cyber bullying is an issue in our schools today and is difficult to monitor. In keeping with the realistic writing by Mr. Wilhelm, I was bothered by the outcome of a video in the book. I realized my discomfort was because it was too realistic. This, however, is why I will use True Shoes as a class read, because stories don't always end in "happily ever after" even when someone tries to do the right thing. The characters present teachable moments in our students' lives.

One of my students agreed to comment after reading True Shoes. Her thoughts follow, "I thought the sequel, True Shoes, rivaled The Revealers. It held a realistic perception of the negative effects that cyber bullying can cause; also showing how pressures not only caused by peers but family as well, can lessen your enjoyment of 7th or 8th grade, a time where most of us find our true selves. A must read for those who can't help but to connect with the characters and undertand what they're going through." by Artemis Brown

Read, enjoy and connect with your students using the most recent novel by Mr. Doug Wilhelm. You won't be disappointed.
